I've worked both in the front and back of the Development shop, while coordinating and collaborating with Executive & Board Leadership and Staff from all parts of an organization. I have raised funds in the urban parks and greenspace sectors, disaster response, community development, peacemaking, education, and economic mobility.
Originally from Indiana and transplanted to Berks County, Pennsylvania as a kid, I settled in Philadelphia after living in Nigeria and Spain. Having played basketball from an early age into college, I've experienced the ups and down and joys of being on a team. I approach my work like playing my beloved game of basketball: giving it my all, being someone you can depend on, dealing with the losses, and celebrating the small break throughs and the big wins.
I co-led the organization's Development strategy with the VP of Advancement, during the merger of two organizations, to raise $10 million annually, primarily through grants, contract fees, and individual giving. I managed the grant administrative process to successfully gain and retain grant awards which accounted for 40-45% of annual funds raised, while stewarding a portfolio of ~30 individual, corporate, and foundation funders. I also led the Development data migration project to a new CRM during the merger.
2) Grant & Donor Administrative Coordinator
Steppingstone Scholars (Education and College Access Nonprofit)
January 2018 - September 2022
I managed the administration of the organization's grants from foundations, corporations, and government, which accounted for ~34-45% of $2-3 million raised annually, in collaboration with Program and Finance colleagues. I wrote proposal and reports and researched and reviewed grant opportunities for organizational fit. I also processed donations and maintained the Development data in the CRM, which included a data migration process to a new CRM.
3) Donor Relations Coordinator
Mennonite Central Committee East Coast (Relief, Development & Peace NGO)
March 2012-June 2017
I led the regional Donor Relations strategy to steward individual donors and support volunteers in order to raise $8 million annually, which I developed in consultation with the regional Executive Director and the national Donor Relations Director. I traveled extensively throughout the East Coast of the U.S. speaking publicly and meeting with individual donors, volunteer fundraising groups, and other stakeholders. I stewarded a portfolio of ~ 75 individual major donors and worked in tandem with the Board Chair on board fundraising efforts. I managed the Development data in the CRM to track and analyze our efforts and giving trends.
4) Program Coordinator
Bright Lights Initiative (Youth Development and Education Nonprofit)
February 2009-Oct 2011
I taught elementary school students in conflict resolution, advocacy, and leadership skills and assisted the Founder & Executive Director in program, fundraising, communications, and financial work for the organization.
5) Director
Shalom House (Faith-based Peacemaking Project)
July 2007 - August 2011
I led a faith based peacemaking project; facilitating planning sessions and meetings, and sharing the vision of the project through public speaking and writing. I also wrote grant applications and reports to fundraise for the project.
6) Program Manager
Philadelphia Parks Alliance (Urban Parks & Greenspace Nonprofit)
I organized advocacy efforts, presented at community meetings, and managed the production and distribution of the newsletter. I also assisted the Executive Director in developing and implementing the fundraising plan, including grants, solicitation and membership letters, the annual fundraiser, and maintained the database, which included processing donations.
